Essay: "Ruthless Religious Sect Wins Free Speech Battle"

Essay: "Ruthless Religious Sect Wins Free Speech Battle"

In a eight to one decision, the United States Supreme Court ruled that the douchebags from the Westboro Baptist Church out of Kansas can continue to travel far and wide to disrupt the funerals of deceased soldiers and others. The Westboro protesters carry provocative placards with messages such as: "God Hates Fags", and "Thank God for Dead Soldiers", among other hateful messages. Although the so-called protesters are supposedly asserting their free speech rights, they are also using bullying, harassment and intimidation; what I consider 'verbal terrorism'. I consider their message verbal terrorism for two reasons. One, it might incite other people to violence and it might poison the minds of the young and impressionable minds against those who these phony religious hypocrites hate. Although I tend toward an agnostic or atheistic mindset, I have no problem with religious or spiritual individuals, provided they try to be better or more loving people and do not impose their morality or belief system on those who do not have the same ideology or faith.
